So ive been a little out of the loop for a while, but my life seems to be slowly getting back into the swing of things and I couldn't ask for anything more. This past month the LOCAL 562 and I were involved in a Silverlake flea market which was not only fun but supportive of the local community which is always good. I'm not sure if were going to be a part of the same one in the future but it is every Saturday and if youre in the area, you should definitely check it out.

As for other installations going on this month we are having a show in Los Angeles at Slow Clothing off Melrose on Oct 2nd. There will be discounted vintage goods, live music, and good people. Try to make it out! All the info is on the flyer, hope to see you there.

Although I was only able to stay for the opening for a bit, it was nice to see everyone again! The artwork has really been progressing and it makin me want to step up mah game ;P

As for comic con.. amazing!! It was so fun hanging out with everyone! I was only there for one day, but you need to be there the whole time to be able to take in all the amazing things that are displayed. Here are a couple pics, enjoy!

So last Thursday a few of us volunteered and went to Longfellow elementary school in Whittier for their first annual art night, to which each class room had different projects.. and our project was ' magazine collages'! Although I didnt do much for helping the kids, ( when i asked if they wanted to sit with me and make stuff they shyed away..) it was still great none the less. FEAR NO ART.

I would like to take this time to thank you for being so culturally sensitive. I absolutely appreciate the fact that you realize that not only am I a woman, but a mexican one at that. I mean, you are SO considerate that you actually took the time to 'send' me a letter from another mexican college bound woman, telling me about her immigration struggles, her money issues, and her illiterate parents not being able to help her. All that just to make me feel more comfortable in your honky ass white town, full of bike hipsters, burnside warriors, and hillbilly tweakers. I've been to your taco bell up there, and that fact that there is a white person working the window scared me a little. Regardless, the letter was sweet, I mean really. I wonder why San Diego hasnt sent me a similar letter? Oh well.

The Social Justice Summit at Cal State Fullerton is holding a fundraiser art auction on campus Friday and then a summit on April 18.

“Resist Ignorance, Provoke Thought, Incite Change” is the theme of Cal State Fullerton’s fifth annual Social Justice Summit, presented by the Volunteer & Service Center.
The April 18 event provides a forum for people to exchange ideas about improving the state of local and global communities, offers a chance to discuss the obstacles to creating change and gives attendees the tools for taking social action.

For the first time, a silent art auction will be held in conjunction with the Social Justice Summit with artworks for sale this Friday, March 27, that incorporate social-justice themes. Both events are open to the public free of charge.

Ever get the feeling that something is going to happen, and then it does? I recently met a guy who told me if I ever have a really good feeling about something, to keep it to myself and not tell anyone about it. Well this past weekend was a collaboration of good feelings that I tried to keep to myself, and no longer can.

Friday night my girlfriends decide they wanted to go to Amoeba Records in Hollywood, which I was all about since I hadn't been in quite some time. I get the rest of my shift covered and take off from work and in no time find myself cruisin down the 101.

So I wont mention names but the people that I am with decided they wanted to 'smoke' before we went into the record store, which I was fine with even though I personally didnt want any. With fergies glamorous blaring through the speakers, and smoke filling the brim of the car, we decide - its time and hobble out to make our way over to the elevator.

Now remember that good feelin of something thats going to happen I mentioned at the beginning? Well heres where it comes into play.. were all walking over to the elevator and see a small bald fat man with a woman with curly hair right in front of us. None of us really pay much attention to it, and continue our way into the elevator. As we step in and this small man turns around, we realize that we 3 girls, and a strange man were sharing an elevator with Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman- ya thats right, the fucking penguin and that chick from cheers.

I start blabbing about which floor number to press, yelling something along the lines of " THE BUTTONS UHHH THE BUTTONS", my girlfriend turns her entire body over, and stares with her bloodshot stoned eyes at Mr. Devito starting from his feet up to HIS eyes, and then slowly turns around, and who knows what the random dude was thinking. It was the most awkward/awesome minute of my life. Then he proceeded to laugh and say, " ...NIGHT GIRLS" as he left, leaving us in an uproar of disbelieve.

We were flabbergasted, and it left us in total shock but once it settled we walked over to Amoeba with shit grins on our faces thinking nothing could get better. Right then is when someone went over the intercom and said something along the lines of " ....DOUG MARTSCH FROM BUILT TO SPILL IS SHOPPING..." To which I ran down stairs to greet the frontman of one of the influentical artists to the soundtrack of my life. And you know what, I dont care if I sound creepy- he was sweet as fuck, and I got a picture with him.

I really do love living in Los Angeles, and when you do see someone 'famous' it still takes you aback, it makes you realize that theyre not a fictional character, that they just a normal person like you. Expect when you see them stoned/ or with a contact high, you freak out and only imagine the penguin staring back at you.

So brian and I decided to go to the hollydale abandoned mental institution in downey and have our tastes at haunted adventures. Well actually, I think the last thing we should have been worried about was ghosts, because everything else there was shady as fuck. Gangsters hanging out, abandoned cars with bullet shells, i mean SHADY. But we walked around regardless, because you have to hussle regardless. So here are some pictures from that day.

I think it was because I was being handed free drink tokens and since my mind was on a one way ticket to smashed-ville, I forgot!

Yesterday in my asian art history class, one of my fellow students did a presentation on the Japanese contemporary artist Makoto Aida. I mean I really had to be moved by his work to be writing about it in my blog right? So apparently this 44 year old western-civilization loathing man has certain feelings about socitey/amercian ideals, and you can totally read it in his paintings. He also seems to have a strange obession with women, demoralizing them, school girls, gore, so on and so forth. Take for example his amputee girl, blender, or harajuku girls: they all catch your eye, and are totally fucked.

He also talks about the amercian launguage being pushed in Japan and his resufal to learn it.. and as for the bin laden image? Well its actually a clip from a short film he did, where he talks about quitting terrorism because he found himself in japan. If you dig his stuff or want to look into what he has to say more, feel free to google him, because I sure as hell had a hard time getting anything.

So there I was laying in bed, lazy with my laptop when tat tells me shes coming over so we can do something. When I hung up the phone I quickly realized I had nothing to do, I kinda smelled, and was lethargic as all hell. But all in all, I did want to go out- so we did. She happened to call her friend and told us about some joint in little tokyo, where there was art, dj, dancing and most importantly booze- which seemed like a wonderful combination! Well, all of those things were there but her friend forgot to mention, it was a lesbian bar. Ok ok, dont get me wrong- I have nothing against people who perfer the same sex, I would just like to be forwarned so I can realize what im getting myself into, and it was my first time at a lesbian bar..

Gay or straight, it kinda sucked. The music was so so, the drinks over priced, and not enough people to even halfway fill the dance floor. However, in the corner of the room there was a dude who went by the name, Mr. HOODbrush... and he was an airbrush artist. Yes, airbrush. Figuring it was free, and I really had no other source of entertainment- tat and I decided to get each others names airbrushed on our bodies, in respect of the facility that we were in.

So thats what we did, and for a second there I thought the whole room was staring at us thinking we were either:
a) ridiculous
b) awesome
c) totally lame because we have an airbrush artist working on us.

I choose all of the above.

So tonight alex and I went and saw the Awaji Puppet Theater Company with live chanting and shamisen music accompaniment. First off, the drive there was ridiculous. I got a flat, when we showed up we had no cash, ran to the nearest atm, and was hoping that there were other worldly puppet previews Ex: Swedish puppet preview with talks of silk clothing, African puppet previews, anything really- just so we wouldnt be late.... So we finally scrounge up enough cash and get our asses in there. The first thing I wanted was a beer, but the show escort guy gave me some tude' because the show 'had started' and I had to tuck my drinking habits away.

It was very interesting, and I can honestly say I had never experienced something like that before. But thank god no one was with Alex and I, because we were laughing at the most ridiculous things. Not to mention during the intermission we were in midst of farmer hoggett from babe, and I was LOVING IT. Not only did we sing the songs he danced to, but whenever we would turn and look to double check, he would just smile at us.

So If you decide you would like to soak yourself in some Japanese folk puppetry, its showing for one more night at the dinsey music hall.

6740 art show

Gab is an awesome dude and has approached myself and some fellow dudes to put our artwork in the 6740 in uptown whittier. You see he also put together a community art show called 'Tropical Apartments' in the summer of 08, which was only one night but a blast nonetheless. The reason why this is different is because the works will be up for a few months... After many years of going to this bar and veiwing/judging the artwork on the walls, I can finally be viewed and judged. How exciting/nervewrecking. Oh, and there will also be pictures of myself done by Tony for sale.

There is no flyers yet, but I will make sure to put some up whenever I get the chance.

I usually like to venture in the the realm of experimental artmaking: meaning I'll try anything with anything, and using everything ( that I can get my hands on). However, I am currently enrolled in a printmaking class and we are in the process of creating linoleum prints. This is a first for myself, and I am proud to have them displayed!

So here is a taste and you should go see them all when theyre displayed.
